Every Dark Ember piece begins with the signature FireForged™ process before being carefully resurfaced and reintroduced to the flame through a second controlled burn.

This second firing creates Dark Ember's signature charcoal appearance directly within the wood—not with stain or paint, but through fire itself.

Layers of Danish oil are then worked into the darkened wood fibers, strengthening the charred surface before a thin satin polyurethane topcoat is applied to provide additional protection while preserving the authentic FireForged™ texture beneath it.

The result is an authentic FireForged™ charred surface, preserved beneath a protective finish that leaves it clean, solid, and ready to become part of your next project.

No two pieces of wood are ever identical. Grain patterns, knots, and natural character will always vary, making every FireForged™ piece uniquely yours.

Will the black finish rub off?

No.

Although Dark Ember preserves an authentic charred surface, it is carefully finished through a layered process that strengthens and protects the wood while preserving its authentic FireForged™ appearance.

What types of projects is Dark Ember best suited for?

Because Dark Ember preserves one of the most dramatic moments in the FireForged™ process, I generally recommend it for projects where that finish can be appreciated for years without the constant wear that comes with everyday work surfaces.

I love the look of Dark Ember, but I'm building a dining table. What would you recommend?

If your goal is a deep black FireForged™ dining table, I'd recommend a different FireForged™ approach.

I can create a similar look using Artisan FireForged™ boards. After your project is fabricated, the wood can be finished with a black stain and a durable protective topcoat that's better suited for a tabletop used every day.

The appearance will be a little different than true Dark Ember because it isn't preserving the naturally charred surface created by the second burn, but it provides a much better balance between the look you're after and the long-term durability a dining table deserves.
